PLAY ANY GAME ON YOUR PC FREE NOW!

THIS WEBSITE WILL SHOW YOU HOW!

If you long to play the video games (arcade, console or handheld) of your childhood, not to worry! The secret to playing practically any game from the past on your computer is with programs called emulators. Emulators are programs that perform the same functions as the old gaming consoles (or even older computers for that matter) by running the original game programs (called ROMs) in a way that uses the resources of your PC to "emulate" the original gaming hardware.

Below is a list of my tutorials for some of the many popular gaming systems that have reliable emulators that can be used on practically any PC (and Mac in most cases) but this is only scratching the surface! There are plenty of options out there for even more games and gaming systems. If you don't see what you are looking for here, check the LINKS OF INTEREST page for even more solutions for your gaming needs!

ARCADE GAMES - There are currently over 30,000 games to choose from in the arcade games category. All the most popular games from the 70's, 80's, 90's and beyond are available and good working order on any modern PC. Arcade games were going strong even during the so-called video game crash of 1983, due in part to the fact that arcade game technology was many steps ahead of the technology in the home systems of the time like Atari, Colecovision and Intellivision, and practically every machine had unique hardware to run the specific game. All you need is an emulator and your game's ROM. See the How-To on this page!

Popular Arcade Games: Pac-Man, Galaga, Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat, Golden Tee 2K, Cherry Master, Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, Space Invaders, Centipede, Dig Dug, Defender, Stargate, Tron, Double Dragon, Tempest, Star Wars, Pole Position, Zaxxon, Frogger, Berzerk, Q*bert, Robotron 2084...

ATARI 2600 - Originally known as the Atari Video Computer System, this 4-bit console was released in 1977. This should bring back lots of nostalgia for older gamers and some interesting challenges for younger gamers as well. Original and modern homebrew games combine for a total of over 500 releases. See the How-To on this page!

Popular Atari Games: Pitfall!, Haunted House, Adventure, Yar's Revenge, Sea Quest, Combat...

NINTENDO - The Nintendo Entertainment System or NES (known as the Famicom in Japan) was the reigning champion of home console gaming in the late 1980's. This 8-bit console was released in 1985 (in US) and was direct competition for the Sega Master System. The NES provided a close approximation of the graphical quality of some popular arcade games of the day in a library of nearly 900 game releases. See the How-To on this page!

Popular Nintendo Games: Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Contra...

SEGA GENESIS - This 16-bit gaming console (known as Sega Mega Drive in Japan)  hit the markets in 1989 (in US) and was the primary competition for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (released 2 years later) throughout the early and mid-1990's. This was the first home console to have spot-on ports of arcade games among the over 900 game releases on the system. See the How-To on this page!

Popular Sega Games: Sonic the Hedgehog, NBA Jam, Aladdin, X-Men, Mortal Kombat, Ecco the Dolphin...

SUPER NINTENDO - Released in 1991 (in US), this system soon overshadowed all competition with a huge library of games (nearly 900 official releases) of all genres. Emulation allows gamers to play games that were originally exclusive to other regions than their own (PAL, US, JAPAN). Having a PC gamepad makes SNES gaming easier on PC, but it can still be easily done without one too. See the How-To on this page!

Popular SNES Games: Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country...

SEGA GAME GEAR - Released in 1991 (in US), this handheld system had a color screen and many familiar games from Sega's 8-bit Master System as well as some new exclusives and low-res ports of games found on the Sega Genesis home console system. There are well over 400 games for this often-overlooked handheld system from the early 1990's. See the How-To on this page!

Popular Game Gear Games: Columns, Sonic the Hedgehog, Space Harrier, PGA Tour Golf, Shinobi...

NINTENDO GAME BOY - This section is also for Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance (one emulator does all three systems!) Between these 3 systems there are over 2,200 games to choose from! See the How-To here!

Popular Game Boy Games: Tetris, Metroid II: Return of Samus, Super Mario Land, Kirby's Dream Land...

Popular Game Boy Color Games: Pokemon, Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, Wario Land II, Mario Golf...

Popular Game Boy Advance Games: Mario Vs. Donkey Kong, Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Metroid Fusion...

NINTENDO 64 - In 1996, this was Nintendo's last cartridge-based home console. Two of the games on this system have been nominated as "greatest game of all time": Mario 64 & Zelda: Ocarina. This was the first home console system to utilize an analog joystick on the controller. System limitations led to lack of 3rd party support and a smaller library of games (under 400) than competitors, Sony PS2 & Sega Dreamcast. See the How-To page here!

Popular N64 Games: Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Turok 2, Resident Evil 2...

SONY PLAYSTATION - Released in 1995 (in US), this system soon overtook Nintendo's 64-bit console as the dominant home console when most 3rd party game producers partnered with Sony due to restrictive development limitations of Nintendo at the time. There are 2,418 Playstation games out there. See the How-To here!

Popular PS1 Games: Tekken 3, Metal Gear Solid, Crash Bandicoot, Final Fantasy VII, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil 2...

SEGA DREAMCAST - Released in 1999 (in US), the official Dreamcast game library consists of 688 releases, though not all are compatible with available emulators at this time. There are still some great games on this system though that were considered ahead of their time that ARE, in fact, playable now. See the How-To page here!

Popular Dreamcast Games: Crazy Taxi, Rayman 2, Soul Calibur, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Headhunter...

SONY PLAYSTATION 2 - Released in 2000, it has been hailed as the best selling game console of all time. Recent developments in the emulation world have made this system and many of the nearly 4,000 games in the PS2 library playable on PC. See the How-To page here!

Popular PS2 Games: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, God of War, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid 2...
